General

The following information was obtained from the Ecuadorian Ministry of Foreign Relations and must be confirmed with the Ecuadorian Embassy or Consulate in your own country. Visa policies and regulations change very frequently.

As regards to passports, you should always have yours on hand because the police makes constant checks in the cities at night and along the road during trips. It is also preferable that you have a legal copy of your passport that you can get in most embassies, especially if you are planning to stay in Quito or Guayaquil for a long period of time. These copies are recognised by Ecuadorian law. If your passport is lost or stolen, you should report it immediately to your Embassy or Consulate.

Most travellers to Ecuador will not have to think about procuring a visa before departure. When you arrive, the migration officials will stamp a tourist visa valid up to 90 days. If you plan to stay the whole time, be sure to request the full visa limit as they will sometimes give a visa for less time.

Citizens of the following countries can enter on a tourist visa:

Argentina, Austria, Australia, Belgium, Bolivia, Brazil, Canada, Chile, Colombia, Croatia, Czech Republic, Denmark, Dominican Republic, Estonia, Finland, France, Germany, Hungary, Ireland, Israel, Italy, Japan, Kenya, Kuwait, Latvia, Lichtenstein, Lithuania, Luxembourg, Malta, Monaco, Netherlands, Norway, Panama, Paraguay, Peru, Portugal, Russian Federation, Romania, South Africa, Spain, Sweden, Switzerland, Turkey, UK and Northern Ireland, USA, Uruguay, Vatican Republic, Venezuela.

Citizens who cannot enter Ecuador on a Tourist Visa:

Citizens of the following countries will not be able to enter Ecuador with a tourist visa and need to seek advice from the Ecuadorian Embassy in their home country before travel.
